As someone who studied much more poetry than prose, I'm fascinated by Labbe's thought-provoking observation about generic expectations. I'm not going to look at Smith's novels, but I wonder what other authors I've misread by segregating the poetry from the prose. H.D.? George Meredith? Though it does seem a particularly fruitful observation with respect to English Romanticism.
